The 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 has just been launched in Malaysia, and in case you’re confused – yes, this is a new model; no, it’s not the fully electric G-Wagen. Nevertheless, the German carmaker thinks that there’s enough changes here to give it a brand new model code, now called the W465.
So what exactly is new here? Well for one, there’s the price. The new 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 is now priced at RM1,948,888 – a fairly significant RM150k bump over the outgoing model.

If you’re hoping for it to look differently, though, don’t hold your breath. Because like all G-wagens before it, the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 still looks like how you’d expect a G-Class to be. That said, there are a few differences here that set it apart from the G63 before it, including the smoothened out A-pillars, a slight lip spoiler on the leading edge of the roof, as well as newly redesigned bumpers with larger air intakes up front.
Mercedes-Benz says the former two are aerodynamic tweaks that it has learned while developing the fully electric G580e. These work together with new insulation material within the bodywork to improve “acoustic comfort” inside the cabin. Otherwise, though, the rest of the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 is pretty much identical from before, and you can expect standard equipment including:
- Multibeam LED headlights
- AMG Night package with darkened lights and Manufaktur Logo
- 22-inch AMG cross-spoke alloy wheels with spare wheel on rear door
- Red brake calipers
- AMG-specific “Panamericana” grille in dark chrome
- Side running boards
Ditto its interior, because not much has really changed here either. You’ll still be getting the same utilitarian-styled cabin design, and the same twin 12.3-inch screens on the dashboard, now running an updated version of the MBUX software. But if you’re a fan of physical clocks in your Mercedes-Benz, too bad, because the IWC timepiece has now been removed here (in favour of a digital “watch” you can find in the centre screen).
Unlike most modern Mercedes-Benz models, the new 2024 G-Wagen also still retains the touchpad controller in the centre console. The wireless phone charging pad is new, though, and you’ll also find two “climate-controlled cupholders” underneath the same rolling shutter. Other interior equipment include:
- AMG carbon fibre trim
- “Superior Line” interior
- Black Nappa leather
- Active Multicontour Seat package Plus
- AMG Performance steering wheel in carbon fibre design, with AMG steering wheel buttons
- Burmester 3D surround sound system
- Sliding sunroof
- MBUX rear entertainment
- Illuminated door sill plates
- Offroad Cockpit displays

The most significant change on the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 is actually underneath the bonnet. Don’t worry, you’ll still be getting the same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 from before, making 585 hp and 850 Nm of torque. On the 2024 model, though, it’s now augmented by a 48V mild hybrid system, with an belt-driven starter generator (BSG) motor housed within the updated nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT gearbox providing an additional boost of 20 hp under acceleration.
With the new added firepower, Mercedes says the new 2024 G63 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h some 0.1 seconds quicker than before, taking just 4.3 seconds with the AMG Performance Package that comes as standard in Malaysia. Drive is sent to all four wheels via a permanent four-wheel drive system, replete with three locking differentials and a low-range transfer case, as is customary on a G-Wagen.
Also new here is the sportscar-derived AMG Active Ride Control suspension, which uses hydraulic active roll control hardware to improve the SUV’s handling performance, both on- and off-roads – the latter courtesy of increased wheel articulation, but come on, who actually takes the G63 offroad?
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG G63 in Malaysia comes as standard with a suite of advanced driver assistance features (ADAS), that includes adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping assist, active steering assist, autonomous emergency braking, parking assist, and an augmented reality navigation system. A 360-degree surround view camera is standard, too, including a “transparent bonnet” feature to help off-roads, or more realistically to navigate the car around tight car parks.
Again, pricing for the new Big G starts at RM1,948,888 on-the-road, and without insurance. Included in the price is a standard four-year unlimited mileage warranty.
