First previewed in August this year, SAIC Motor Malaysia has now announced that the MG Cyberster is now open for booking here on our shores, at an estimated price of under RM350,000.
The two-seater fully electric roadster is slated for launch before the end of 2024, and will be offered in a single variant here in Malaysia, to be fully imported (CBU) from China.
Powering the MG Cyberster is a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, offering 503 hp (375 kW) and 725 Nm to all four wheels. The motors are juiced by a 77 kWh battery, which enables the EV roadster to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, while also travelling up to 446 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
Topping off the battery will take approximately 10.5 hours (10-100%) via the on-board 7 kW AC charger. DC charging on the other hand is supported at up to 150 kW, translating to a 10-80% charge in 38 minutes.
Even though it’s now owned by Chinese carmaker SAIC, MG as a brand still places heavy emphasis on its heritage. That’s why the Cyberster has taken inspiration from the iconic MGB roadster when it came to its design, featuring the same broad, low-profile silhouette that highlights the classic British sports car proportions: long bonnet, short rear deck.
The Union Jack-inspired tail lights at the rear are an extra nod to its British heritage, while the electric frameless scissor doors gives the roadster additional style points – not that it needed any.

Standard exterior features on the MG Cyberster in Malaysia will include the 20-inch Jetstream alloy wheels, red calipers, automatic LED headlamps and daytime-running lights, as well as a retractable soft top in black colour, no matter your external colour choice (Dynamic Red, Inca Yellow, Camden Grey, English White).
Inside the driver-focused cabin, you’ll find leather sports seats with Alcantara inserts and six-way powered adjustments, a Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as an eight-speaker Bose audio sound system. But the highlight of the interior is undoubtedly the collection of screens inside, including a 10.25-inch instrument cluster flanked by two seven-inch auxiliary screens, one acting as an infotainment display while the other to control the various vehicle functions. Another seven-inch touchscreen sits on the centre console for climate control.
Despite its sporting credentials, the MG Cyberster will still come packed with a range of advanced driver assistance features (ADAS) for when you want to just cruise around. Dubbed MG Pilot, the ADAS suite consists of autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian and bicycle detection), adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, lane departure and lane keep assist, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, intelligent high beam, and blind spot detection.
Intrigued? The MG Cyberster will be available for public viewing at the upcoming Auto Car Expo, taking place on 26-27 October at Setia City Convention Centre. No test drives are available for the Cyberster, unfortunately, but you’ll be able to take the rest of MG’s lineup out for a spin, including the MG HS, MG5, MG4, and MG ZS.
