Sime Darby Beyond Auto has launched the BYD M6, a fully electric MPV, in Malaysia. Available in two variants, Standard and Extended, as a seven seater, the M6 starts at RM109,800 on-the-road without insurance.
The M6 is essentially a facelift version of the BYD E6, which was previously on the docket for the Malaysian market, now with a fresh new look. A full-width silver trim piece connects the sleek headlights, reflecting BYD’s updated design language. The MPV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and features full-width tail lights with intricate detailing.
Dimensions wise, the BYD M6 measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and a 2,800 mm wheelbase. This makes the M6 slightly smaller than the Toyota Innova Zenix at 4,760mm long, 1,850 mm in width and 2,850 wheelbase.
Both variants are nearly identical on the outside, save for the addition of the roof rack railing on the Extended variant, alongside a radar on the front bumper. Standard exterior equipment of BYD M6 include:
- 17-inch alloy rims
- LED headlights
- Full-width LED tail lights
- Sequential turn indicators (rear)
A 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen sits on the dashboard, providing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Unlike the digital displays in the Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal, the M6 features an analogue instrument cluster, with a five-inch multi-info display sitting in between the two dials.
Standard interior equipment of the BYD M6 include:
- Keyless entry with NFC key card unlock
- Automatic climate control with separate rear blower adjustments
- Synthetic leather upholstery
- 360-degree surround view monitor
- Six-speaker audio system
- Vehicle-to-load (V2L) function
The Extdended Range variant adds:
- Powered front seats with seat ventilation function
- Metal sill plates
- 15W wireless charging pad
- Panoramic glass roof
- Powered tailgate
- PM2.5 Air Filtration System
Two powertrain options are available. The Standard features a front-mounted electric motor delivering 163 hp (120 kW) and 310 Nm. The Extended offers an upgraded motor producing 204 hp (150 kW) and 310 Nm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 10.1 seconds for the Standard and 8.6 seconds for the Extended variant.
Equipped with a 55.4 kWh battery, the Standard achieves a range of up to 420 km (NEDC). The Extended goes even further, boasting a 71.8 kWh battery and a 530 km range (NEDC). The BYD M6 supports both AC (7 kW) and DC charging – the latter supported at up to 89 kW on the Standard variant, and 115 kW on the Extended. A quick 40-minute DC charge can take the higher-spec model from 10% to 80% battery capacity.
The BYD M6 utilises BYD’s proprietary Blade Battery. This battery system is designed to withstand high impacts and extreme conditions such as compression, bending, heating up to 300 degrees and overcharging by 260% without causing a fire or explosion.
In terms of safety, the BYD M6 comes with six airbags, stability control, and a 360 degree surround view monitor as standard. The Extended variant gets advanced driver assistance such as:
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
- Lane centering assist (LCA)
- Blind spot monitoring (BSM)
- Lane departure assist (LDA)

The BYD M6 comes with a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty guaranteeing state of health above 70%, as well as an eight-year/150,000 km warranty for the electric drive unit.
