Looking for an EV that won’t break the bank? With options like the Smart #1 and Volvo EX30 already making waves, there’s a hot new contender hitting the Malaysian market soon that’s turning heads: the Zeekr X.
The Zeekr X is built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture 2 (SEA2) platform, which is shared by the Smart #1 and Volvo EX30. And here’s the best part, it’s estimated to be priced below RM180,000 – including the range-topping variant!
Size-wise, the X (we’re talking about the car, not the website!) falls between the Smart #1 and the BYD Atto 3. Its dimensions are 4,450 mm long, 1,836 mm wide, 1,572 mm tall with a 2,750 mm wheelbase – making it the biggest amongst the trio of SEA2-based compact crossovers.
The Zeekr X will be offered in two variants here in Malaysia – the Premium and the Flagship AWD. With a single rear motor producing 272 hp and 343 Nm, the Premium can hit 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. For those seeking more thrills, the Flagship AWD packs a dual-motor setup, delivering 428 hp and 543 Nm for a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds – not quite Model 3 Performance levels, but definitely still quick enough for pretty much anything!
The Zeekr X embraces a minimalist aesthetic both inside and out. The interior features an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen that controls essentially all vehicle functions on the X. Externally, the Zeekr X breaks away from traditional SUV styling with a hatchback-like profile similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Slim daytime running lights and low-mounted headlights create a modern look, while a full-width taillight emphasises the car’s width. A unique touch is the small screen located in the B-pillar, exclusive to the Flagship AWD variant, which displays charging information and various vehicle modes, including a “pet mode”.
The Zeekr X is certainly a compelling new contender in the Malaysian EV market. With its stylish design, impressive performance and advanced technology, it offers a unique package at a competitive price. The question is, will its blend of practicality and performance be enough to sway you from established rivals like the Smart #1 and Volvo EX30?
