The car gods are demanding sacrifices in return of supposed blessings for a better future. Among the sacrificial lambs offered are the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the larger GLE Coupe which will be discontinued.
As Stuttgart plans for the future, part of it includes consolidation of their internal combustion-engined models and the coupe-SUVs are primed for the chopping block as the marque continues its transition towards an electric line-up.

Prior to this, the carmaker has already axed the internal combustion-engined C-Class Coupe, S-Class Coupe, CLS and X-Class pick-up.
The GLC Coupe is already in its second-generation, codenamed the C254, and is only in the first year of a proposed seven-year cycle. However, the GLE Coupe was recently facelifted and is well in the midst of its lifecycle having been launched in 2019.

As the petrol-powered models continue to fall, the compact A-Class hatchback and B-Class MPV were slated to follow suit by the end of 2024 but were blessed with some extra time until 2026, by which there will be no more absolution.
According to German business publication Handelsblatt, a source from the HQ in Stuttgart confirmed an announcement on further model cuts is around the corner but stopped short of acknowledging the death of the GLC and GLE Coupes, citing, “Every current model is under review. It is a continuous process.”

As the carmaker continues its transition towards developing new electric models, the unavoidable sees the wide variety of model derivatives being consolidated.
Nonetheless, Mercedes-Benz will be unveiling the third-generation CLA sedan later this year, the first of a quartet of models based on the new MMA platform. The CLA sedan will be available in electric and combustion-engined forms. It will be followed in 2025 on the MMA platform by the successors of the CLA Shooting Brake, EQA and EQB.
