Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the sole distributor for Ford vehicles here in Malaysia, has unveiled a new limited edition variant for the Ford Ranger, dubbed the XLT Plus Special Edition. Packed with a bunch of visual and mild equipment upgrades, the 300-units-only Ford Ranger XLT Plus Special Edition is priced at RM143,888 on-the-road and without insurance – a small RM1,000 hike over the regular XLT Plus.

As the name suggests, the new Special Edition variant is based on the Ford Ranger XLT Plus, first launched in Malaysia two years ago. On the SE, you get new chunky fender flares, sports bar, and a healthy dose of decals on the outside, all of which finished in matte black to give the pickup truck a “bold, aggressive appearance”, the company says.
Upgrades inside are a little less shouty, with only the new light-up LED Ranger scuff plates, as well as pull-out cupholders underneath the air vents up in front – the latter a definite crowd favourite for pickup truck owners.
The Ranger XLT Plus Special Edition is available in two colour options: Meteor Grey, and the Absolute Black you see in these photos.

Aside from these additions, the rest of the truck remains unchanged from before. Underneath the bonnet still sits the same 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine that pushes out 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque, with drive sent to the four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a part-time four-wheel drive system.
Inside, you’ll still find the same 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display in portrait orientation in the centre of the utilitarian dashboard, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other interior equipment include the digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, as well as a Qi wireless charging pad.

The first 20 customers who successfully purchase the limited-edition model through SDAC’s online booking system will also receive RM3,000 worth of fuel vouchers as a bonus.
