Proton upskills suppliers for next-gen EVs with vendor enhancement programme in China

Proton recently collaborated with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development, Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), and Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) to bring its suppliers from government-linked companies (GLCs) to a vendor enhancement programme in China. This program was focused on improving market access and bolster technology transfer.

This was a result of a recent survey conducted by Proton, which revealed that a significant portion (87%) of local suppliers expressed interest in collaborating with Chinese suppliers. These collaborations could involve distributorship, technology transfer, joint ventures, skill development, as well as joint investments for new businesses.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in strengthening Malaysia’s automotive capabilities, particularly in the crucial area of electric vehicle (EV) components. The programme facilitated partnerships and technology exchanges, aiming to boost the local supply chain for EVs.

Proton says that it sees a bright future for EVs in Malaysia. The company showcased next-generation concepts and EVs at the event, hinting at their development plans. This aligns with the growing global trend towards electric mobility and Malaysia’s desire to be a regional leader in EV technology.
