The new Mercedes-Benz GLC350e is now available in Malaysia. It will replace the GLC300 as the only GLC model available in our country. The new GLC350e plug-in hybrid which will be locally-assembled, starts from RM398,888. That makes it RM20,000 more expensive than the locally-assembled GLC300 launched last year. The fully-imported GLC300 was RM429,888.
The GLC350e shares the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as the new E350e and is assisted by an electric motor to pump out a total of 313 hp and 550 Nm of torque. Compared to the GLC300, the GLC350e makes an extra 55 hp and 150 Nm of torque. Its 0-100 km/h time is 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 218 km/h.
The GLC350e only takes AC charging up to 11kW, with a full charge taking 2 hours. The GLC350e can run on pure electric power up to 130 km when its batteries are fully charged. Also because of its batteries, the GLC350e has a slightly smaller boot compared to the GLC300 – 490 litres vs 620 litres.
Notable features include a 360-degree camera which also allows you to see what’s under the car, rear window sunshades, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless charging.

The GLC350e now comes with Driving Assistance Package Plus. A big step up in the driver assistance department with features such as adaptive cruise control with stop & go, lane centering assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert and braking, autonomous emergency braking and blind spot monitoring with collision prevention.
What do you think of the new GLC350e then? Are the barriers to entry too high since its RM398,888 or no GLC? Would you like to see a more affordable, lower variant GLC available here in Malaysia?
