Video: 2024 Mercedes-Benz C350e review – Stepping into electrification!

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are basically all anyone’s talking about these days. But as exciting as the “Next Big Thing” can be, for many of us, owning an EV is still too much of a hassle – primarily due to the lack of charging infrastructure. That’s probably why plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) have been gaining popularity recently, and the Mercedes-Benz C350e might just be one of the most impressive examples in the segment.

PHEVs have the unique ability to play on both sides of the court: on one hand, it’s the perfect opportunity to dip your toes into electrification and experience the EV lifestyle, while on the other hand, it’s also got an internal combustion engine as a safeguard in case you can’t find a place to charge it.

On the Mercedes-Benz C350e, its biggest strength is the former. Thanks to its 25.4 kWh battery pack, it’s capable of driving up over 100 km (WLTP) in pure electric mode, giving owners a true taste of what an EV feels like to live with. It’s got 129 hp and 440 Nm in pure electric mode, but it’s most impressive when the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine joins the party too, raising outputs to 313 hp and 550 Nm for easy overtakes on the highway.

Still, the pure electric mode is more than capable in handling all of your day-to-day driving, especially when it’ll reach 140 km/h without burning a drop of petrol – and you get all of the usual EV advantages too, such as instantaneous torque and response, and virtually zero noise and vibrations from the powertrain.
