Old vs New: 2024 Mitsubishi Xpander in Malaysia – What’s new & different?

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has just announced that the 2024 Xpander facelift is now open for booking. The pre-facelift Xpander was launched in 2021, priced at RM91,639. It’s worth noting that the price then was inclusive of sales tax exemption. The new Xpander is now expected to cost around RM115,000 so here’s what you’re getting for the extra money.

New wheel design

Like before, the Xpander’s wheel size is now larger. It now uses 17-inch wheels (16-inch before) with a new wheel design. Also new is the choice of tyre; Bridgestone Ecopia tyres over the Toyo Proxes CR1 tyres.

Redesign Dynamic Shield design

The facelift Xpander comes with a redesigned front grille, daytime running lights and a new headlight design that resembles the Mitsubishi XForce. You still get fog lights but the number plate holder has been relocated.

Sportier rear section

The new Xpander facelift can be specified with an optional tailgate for a sportier look. The tailgate has also been redesigned to accommodate a new LED taillight (previously bulb type), again resembling the XForce.

New steering wheel design

Unlike the old steering wheel design that’s finished with gloss black trims, the new steering looks more rugged and futuristic. It also shares the same design as the steering in the Mitsubishi XForce. The Xpander is now fitted with four USB ports instead of two from before.

Infotainment touchscreen & digital air-con panel

You still get a 9-inch touchscreen display like before but it’s now presented in a larger housing, with icons for better accessibility. The air-con knobs from before have now been replaced with a more modern digital air-con panel.

Wireless Charging, Electronic Parking Brake & Autohold

The new Xpander also comes with a wireless charger, replacing the empty tray under the air-con control panel. It’s now also fitted with an electronic parking brake and autohold. The cupholders have been rearranged while the storage box behind it, now comes with an arm rest as well.

So what do you think of the new Xpander? Can it compete with today’s offerings?
