Video: 2025 Proton X70 facelift – with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

The long-awaited 2025 Proton X70 facelift has finally been revealed, just a few hours ahead of the unveiling of the fully-electric Proton e.MAS7. This facelift is a rather literal one and the X70 has been given significant updates to keep up with its segment.

The big news for the Proton X70 facelift is that it is the first Proton to be equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We didn’t get to test that just yet though as the displayed unit didn’t feature it just yet. But Proton assures that it will be ready by its official launch. As of now, only 4 variants of the Proton X70 facelift have been confirmed – Standard, Executive, Premium, and Premium X. Initial renders of the X70 facelift may have circulated online, but they don’t quite do the X70 justice. We think it looks pretty good, and you can check it out in our video.

Besides the addition of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, another significant update for the Proton X70 facelift is the lack of the 1.8-litre TGDI engine. The 1.5-litre TGDI engine is the sole engine option and it still makes the same 177 hp (metric) and 255 Nm. Although its outputs remain the same, proton says that the engine has been improved in terms of efficiency and NVH. Working together with an also improved 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), the engine is claimed to have a consumption rate of 7.3 l/100km.

Aside from the new face, the exterior updates to the X70 are subtle. Some design tweaks include the bumper designs and the addition of a nearby auto unlock function for the powered tailgate. And while the exterior may have received the Geely Boyue Treatment, the cabin of the X70 is a revamped version of the outgoing X70 (and not the cabin of the Geely Boyue Pro). There’s a new large floating touchscreen head unit, a new steering wheel, a new gear selector, a new instrument cluster, and a new 72-colour ambient lighting system.

Safety has also been improved in the Proton X70 facelift with the presence of Level 2 ADAS. The safety items that we first saw in the X90 are now equipped on the X70.
