In line with the overall downturn of the Malaysian automotive market, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has reported a monthly sales figure of 7,600 units (Toyota and Lexus combined) for the month of June 2024, bringing its total year-to-date sales figure up to 47,000 units.
The June 2024 figures represent a 9.8% month-to-month drop in sales compared to the previous month’s 8,422 units, and a 12.3% decrease as compared to the same period in 2023. Year-to-date figures for the first half of the year have also dropped 3.4% compared to 1H2023.
This month’s official national sales data from the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) have not been published yet, but many analysts predict that the month of June 2024 is likely the weakest of the year.
And as such, UMWT still regards its sales performance in June as “positive”, which it attributes to the company’s initiatives and other “successful customer-centric promotions”.

For July 2024, the company is introducing a new “Peace of Mind with Every Drive” promotion, offering customers up to 100% financing for selected models. Separately, UMWT is also offering other promotional savings for selected models, including up to RM7,500 discount on the Toyota Yaris, and RM8,000 off for the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
UMW Toyota Motor ended 2023 as the best-selling non-national car brand in Malaysia. While no sales target has been announced thus far, the company is hoping to bolster its sales figure in 2024 with more electrified models. The Lexus LM, launched in May this year, is available in two hybrid powertrain options, while the Lexus RZ450e EV and LBX will also be launched in Malaysia very soon – the latter likely to feature a hybrid 1.5-litre engine.
