Chery Tiggo 5X launched in Indonesia – 1 million KM engine warranty on a budget model!

Chery has just launched the Tiggo 5X in Indonesia, and even though it’s the new entry-level model in its line-up, the company is still offering the same 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty for the compact crossover model, as it does its more expensive siblings.

In addition to the extensive engine warranty, the Chery Tiggo 5X is also covered by a six-year vehicle warranty and four-year free service programme. And that’s not all – Chery is also offering a guaranteed buy-back at 70% of the original vehicle price, essentially ensuring the vehicle’s resale value. Talk about instilling customer confidence!

As for the car itself, the Chery Tiggo 5X is essentially the Chinese domestic name for what we refer to as the “Tiggo 4 Pro” here in Malaysia. In Indonesia, the compact crossover will be offered in two variants, Classic and Champion, both powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine with 111 hp and 138 Nm, and paired to a CVT gearbox.

Targeting the younger car buyers, the Chery Tiggo 5X is launched in the archipelago with an attractive price tag starting at just IDR249 million (approx. RM72k) for the Classic, and IDR279 million (approx. RM80k) for the Champion. For context, the Honda WR-V starts at a price tag of IDR275 million (approx. RM84k), while the Toyota Raize is priced from IDR235 million (approx. RM72k).

To sweeten the deal even further, Chery Indonesia also announced a special discounted pricing for the first 1,000 bookings, reducing the price for both variants by IDR10 million, making them IDR239 million (approx. RM69k) and IDR269 million (approx. RM77k) for the Classic and Champion respectively.

As you’d expect base on the pricing, the Classic variant is the no-frills option, equipped with only basic equipment such as halogen headlights, smaller 16-inch wheels, and a simpler black interior, though it still gets the same 10.25-inch touchscreen head-unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, albeit connected to only four speakers.

The Champion variant meanwhile adds on several additional mod cons and niceties, including LED lighting, 17-inch wheels, powered sunroof, and the advanced driver assistance suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor, and automatic high-beam.

Curiously, the model is launched in Indonesia in the pre-facelift form, instead of the new look that was introduced as part of a facelift update in April this year.

Closer to home, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has already been confirmed for launch here in Malaysia since October 2022, with the latest indication being sometime before the end of 2024, with a pricing target of under RM100,000. Will we be getting the new facelifted model directly, as we did with the Tiggo 8 Pro? Only time will tell – but it doesn’t seem like we’ll have to wait for too much longer!
