Gallery: 2024 Mazda 2 Hatchback, RM109k – staying timeless 9 years in?

Mazda’s official distributor in Malaysia, Bermaz Motor, launched the latest Mazda 2 facelift in the country late last year. Like before, the Japanese brand’s B-segment offering continues to be fully imported (CBU) from Thailand and is offered with sedan and hatchback variants. Both cost RM108,670 (OTR, without insurance), which is RM5,000 more than before. What you are seeing here is the hatchback version.

On the outside, the Malaysian-spec Mazda 2 Hatchback has been given a sporty design theme, which should suit most Malaysian buyers’ tastes. Up front, the 2024 Mazda 2 Hatchback facelift is fitted with a blacked-out honeycomb grille which comes with a little red colour tab, along with redesigned lower intakes. The red colour accent can also be found on the right side of the rear bumper, just above the tailpipe.

Standard exterior equipment thrown in with the Mazda 2 facelift includes automatic LED headlights, bulb-illuminated taillights, as well as LED rear fog lights and reverse lights. It also comes with a set of 16-inch alloy wheels.

The 2024 Mazda 2 facelift in Malaysia can be had with a total of six exterior colour options. This includes Snowflake White Pearl, Soul Red Crystal, Platinum Quartz, Polymetal Gray, and the new AirStream Blue and Aero Gray. The colour option featured in this gallery article is specifically the AirStream Blue.

It is to be noted that the Polymetal Gray and Airstream Blue colour options are available for the hatchback variant only, while the Aero Gray is only for the sedan variant. Also, if you want Mazda’s Soul Red Crystal signature colour, you will have to top up an additional RM500.

Under the hood of the Mazda 2 facelift is the familiar 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-4 engine that makes 114 hp and 149 Nm. Paired with the brand’s 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission, power is sent to the front wheels only.

Moving inside, the Mazda 2 facelift in Malaysia remains largely similar to its predecessor, albeit for the new black leatherette upholstery with suede inserts and red contrast stitching. The suede inserts can also be found on the dashboard and door cards.

In terms of interior equipment, you get the same 7-inch touchscreen infotainment head unit as before, rather than the larger 8-inch unit as seen in Thailand. The head unit still supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features available here include the single-zone automatic climate control, paddle shifters, a coloured head-up display, and a reverse camera.

With this facelift exercise, Mazda has also added some goodies such as an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a new cruise control feature. Sadly, Mazda’s latest B-segment offering still does not come with advanced driver assistance features.

Included with the Mazda 2’s price tag is a 5-year/100,000 km vehicle warranty and a 5-year/100,000 km free maintenance programme. The latter is inclusive of labour, parts, and lubricants.
