Chery Malaysia: Omoda 5 broken axle case under investigation

Chery Malaysia has put out a statement, responding to an incident of a broken axle of a customer’s Chery Omoda 5 SUV. Having been circulating around social media recently, a Chery Omoda 5 owner put out a Facebook post, claiming that her car’s rear left axle snapped while she was driving.

The owner claimed that she did not hit any bumps or potholes on the road, nor did she run into an accident prior to the incident. According to the owner, rust was also reported to be found between the joints of the broken axle, which can be seen in a close-up photo attached by the owner.

Responding to the incident, Chery Malaysia said in a release that it has contacted and is in communication with the owner of the affected Omoda 5 vehicle. The vehicle is said to have been brought to one of Chery’s service centres for a thorough inspection and investigation. The carmaker is also reaching out to the affected customers.

According to the owner, after having her car towed to one of Chery’s service centres, she was told by a staff that her Omoda 5’s broken axle case wasn’t the first, as there was another customer before her that had encountered a similar issue. However, the first case was claimed by the staff to have been “quickly and easily resolved”. Chery Malaysia has yet to respond to this claim at the time of writing.
