Europe’s Mitsubishi ASX facelift debuts – gets Google built-in, still based on Renault Captur

Back in September 2022, the all-new Captur-based Mitsubishi ASX made its debut and it took the internet by storm. Reserved for the European market only, the Mitsubishi ASX has been given a facelift, which is now based on the facelifted Renault Captur.

Given the more aggressive new design of the Renault Captur, we’re happy to say that the Mitsubishi ASX facelift (for Europe) now looks more like a Mitsubishi, albeit still being a Renault Captur with a new bumper.

The facelift brings a new front end to the ASX and it gives more emphasis on the “Dynamic Shield” which Mitsubishi is known for. Compared to the Renault Captur facelift, the Mitsubishi ASX facelift sports a more aggressive front bumper that gets a blacked-out centre part. This helps to accentuate the Dynamic Shield even more, thus creating a more Mitsubishi-like appearance on the ASX. The rest of the car still very much resembles the Renault Captur.

There are three powertrain options for the new ASX. It comes in a full hybrid (HEV) model, a mild hybrid (MHEV) model, and a pure petrol (ICE) model.

The HEV model combines a 1.6-liter petrol engine, two electric motors (an alternator-starter and a main motor), an automatic, multi-mode gearbox, and a 1.2 kWh battery. There is also a new E-SAVE mode for driving while saving the battery’s charge for later use. By keeping the charge level at 40% or above, power can be saved for EV driving or when it is necessary to assist the engine with the motor, such as when driving uphill.

The MHEV model combines a 1.3-litre direct injection turbo engine with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the ICE model is available with a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a 6-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the European Mitsubishi ASX facelift has been updated with a new gear selector, a new HVAC control unit, and a 10.4-inch vertical display. All else, it still retains the same equipment as the pre-facelift European ASX.

It is also the first Mitsubishi model with Google built-in which is a connected service for automobiles. This provides drivers with access to Google Assistant for making phone calls, sending texts, playing music, setting reminders, and controlling the temperature, all using voice commands; Google Maps for navigation and real-time traffic information; and Google Play for downloading apps such as music and podcast apps just like a smartphone.

In addition, a newly developed “My Mitsubishi Motors” mobile app further enhances connectivity to make the new ASX an even more user-friendly part of people’s day-to-day lives. By using their smartphone, the driver can locate where the vehicle is parked, among other features.
