Smart Concept #5 teased ahead of Beijing debut, CR-V-sized electric car

Smart will be showcasing its latest addition to its electric lineup at the Beijing International Auto Show 2024, and it is the Smart #5 (or the Smart Concept #5 for now). Only shown through official sketches for the time being, the Smart Concept #5 is a premium mid-sized SUV that will help the Smart brand penetrate into a new market segment.

The Smart Concept #5 or the Smart #5 will be the brand’s largest vehicle offering, and it looks to be the size of a Honda CR-V. The initial sketches shared by Smart so far show a boxy upright SUV with an interesting “X” design on top of the roof. Smart says that the #5 will be its “most spacious and versatile vehicle to date”.

The sketches also suggest a new design language for Smart cars as the taillight and headlight designs are considerably new for Smart. The concept sketches also suggest the use of unpainted plastic cladding all around the car to give it a more rugged look.

On top of the roof of the Smart Concept #5 is a Swiss-Army-knife-like design that Smart refers to as the “Pocket Knife Concept”. Like a pocket knife, the roof-mounted contraption features items like a folding shovel, winter boards, “bandages”, and inflatable chairs.

Smart also shared sketches of the Concept #5’s seats, which, if we’re understanding the sketch correctly, suggests that the seats are inspired by donuts (or are they?). the file name of the sketch suggests that Smart refers to the seats as its “Zero Gravity Seats”.

Smart will showcase the Smart Concept #5 at the upcoming Beijing International Auto Show 2024, and we will share live images of the car with you soon. In the meantime, Malaysia has just welcomed a camouflaged Smart #3 which will be launched in Malaysia very soon.
