The Honda Yè GT Concept looks like a hot EV Civic from the future

Honda has unveiled its Yè Series, an all-new EV series that is set to be introduced to the Chinese market soon. The first set of the Ye Series models the brand has premiered include the Honda Yè P7 and Honda Yè S7, which will be launched by the end of this year. Set to be introduced to the Chinese market as the second set of the series is the Honda Yè GT Concept. Production models based on the Yè GT Concept are set to launch in China before the end of 2025.

Honda’s current electric vehicle (EV) lineup in China consists of the e:N Series models. The Yè Series models will join them as a new addition to the lineup. The new series was named after the Chinese letter “烨” which means “shine brilliantly”. Honda says this represents its “desire to enable everyone who drives Yè Series models to unleash their innermost passions through the joy of driving” and “let their individuality shine brilliantly.”

The Honda Yè P7 and Yè S7 are both developed based on the brand’s newly developed dedicated EV platform and will be available in two drive layouts. This includes a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) model and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) model. Honda says both drive layouts are designed in pursuit of the “joy of driving”.

More specifically, the RWD variation has been designed to offer sporty and crisp handling. The all-wheel drive variation on the other hand has been made to offer both high power and responsive handling.

Exterior-wise, the Honda Yè P7 is said to express a “seamless, sophisticated, and smart sense of the future”, while the Yè S7 expresses a “more emotional sense of the future that stimulates people who see the vehicle”. Beyond marketing terms, the Yè P7 is the more elegant-looking model, featuring C-shaped headlights and taillights, along with dual-tone alloys.

The Yè S7 on the other hand sports a more aggressive design, with a more angular front end, flanked by a set of boomerang-shaped headlights. It’s also decorated by a more youthful set of body kit and grey alloy wheels.

The boxy shape continues at the rear end of the car, which sports vertical taillights together with a taillight bar that runs across the width of the car. Its rear design somewhat reminds us of the brand’s second-generation Honda Stream MPV. Common equipment found on both SUV models include digital side-view cameras and flush door handles.

On the inside, both the Honda Yè P7 and S7 are said to offer a spacious cabin, allowing the front and rear passengers to ride comfortably. There is also an LED ambient lighting system in which light patterns can be customised by the user.

Found on the instrument panel and door panels, the LED lights can also be changed in conjunction with AI-powered assistance and other functions. Both models sport steering wheels similar to the ones found in the brand’s existing China-exclusive E:NP2 & E:NS2 models.

Placed in front of the driver is a slim vertical digital instrument display that “floats” above the dashboard. Shift your focus to the centre of the interior and you will find a vertical touchscreen head unit.

Set to be introduced as Honda’s second set of the Yè series is the Yè GT Concept. Essentially a four-door sedan, it sports the trending fastback design with a sloping roof. Honda has given it a “low & wide” silhouette that pertains to its GT (Grand Tourer) name.

Unlike the more shouty-looking SUVs, the Honda Yè GT Concept packs a more subtle look. Up front, it sports a set of sleek boomerang-shaped headlights. At the back, it is fitted with LED taillights that extend across the width of the car.

Moving inside the Honda Yè GT Concept, you will find a race-car-inspired interior with a series of red accents. Honda says the driver’s seat is designed to “immerse the driver in the driving experience”, much like a race driver.

To go with the race car theme, you also get an F1-inspired steering wheel. At the centre, the usual controls including the gear selector have been integrated into a single touch-based panel located seamlessly just below the central touchscreen display.

For the first time in Honda’s automobile products, the front passenger gets a far-focus display that provides a sense of depth and experience as if viewing a large screen. This is said to offer an immersive space similar to a private theatre.

All three of the Honda Yè Series models are scheduled to be exhibited at Auto China 2024, which will be held later this month in Beijing China. Honda is also planning to launch a total of six Yè Series models in China by 2027.
