Tesla Cybertruck AWD showcased in Malaysia – 547km range, 600hp, 0-100km/h in 4.3 secs

Just teased less than a week ago, the Tesla Cybertruck has come all the way from Texas, landed in Malaysia, and has just been showcased at the brand’s headquarters at Cyberjaya. First introduced to the world back in 2019, the Cybertruck made its global debut in December last year.

The most interesting bit about the Tesla Cybertruck is obviously its exterior design. Its unique and boxy looks have gotten tonnes of attention since it was first shown to the world.

Its angular exterior and raw metal appearance are not there for no reason though, as it wears a stainless-steel exoskeleton that is claimed to help reduce dents, damage, and long-term corrosion. Beyond its body panels, the Tesla Cybertruck also sports “armoured glass” for its windows, which is claimed to be able to resist the impact of a baseball at 112 km/h or class 4 hail.

Globally, the Tesla Cybertruck is available in three variants, namely the top-spec Cyberbeast, the All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) which won’t be available until 2025. The variant showcased here in Malaysia is the AWD.

Powering the top-of-the-range Telsa Cybertruck Cyberbeast is a tri-motor AWD setup that puts out 845 hp, enabling it to perform the century sprint in just 2.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 209 km/h. The Cyberbeast’s all-electric range is rated at 515 km.

The mid-range Tesla Cybertruck AWD sports a dual-motor AWD powertrain that feeds 600 hp to all four wheels, resulting in a century sprint time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. The AWD variant’s maximum range is rated at 547 km.

Despite not being ready for production just yet, the entry-level Cybertruck RWD is said to feature a single-motor setup that enables it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 km/h. The electric range for the entry-level truck is rated at an estimated 402 km.

For those who are excited to see the Cybertruck here on Malaysian roads, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Tesla Malaysia has confirmed that the Cybertruck will not be launched here in Malaysia – at least not for the foreseeable future. The company has brought the Cybertruck over to Malaysia as part of the model’s Asian Road Tour, to showcase Tesla technology that will eventually make it into other vehicles in its stable.

Tesla does not announce its future plans, but for now, The Tesla Cybertruck is only built in the company’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, and only in left-hand drive form. And even if you’ve somehow received approval to drive it on Malaysian roads, too bad – the Tesla Cybertruck’s 2024 build slots have all been spoken for too.
