DDPai N5 Dual 4K dashcam, Ranger ‘riding camera’ launched in Malaysia – from RM449

DDPai has just unveiled its two latest products here in Malaysia – the N5 Dual 4K dual-channel dashcam, and the Ranger 4K riding camera. The former is designed for cars, and priced from RM449, while the latter is more akin to an action camera for motorcycles and bicycle, priced from RM1099.

Both models are covered by an 18-month warranty, and any claims and repairs will be handled by the company’s service centre located in Kuala Lumpur. The N5 Dual and Ranger dashcams are available on DDPai’s official Shopee store:

DDPai N5 Dual

As the name suggests, the DDPai N5 Dual is a dual-channel dashcam, with a resolution of 4K at 25 fps for the front camera, and 1080p Full HD for the rear. It boasts a 140-degree FOV 7-optical element lens for the main front camera with an f/1.8 aperture, with DDPai’s RealCube and NightVis technologies to ensure crystal clear footages even at night.

The N5 Dual’s unique selling point, however, is the optional millimetre-wave radar sensor module, which enables an “AI-base Radar Motion Detection” feature for parking monitoring. In addition to the usual collision-based detection, the DDPai N5 Dual will also automatically begin recording (10 seconds before, and 10 seconds after the event) when it detects and identifies other individuals in the vicinity (like Tesla’s Sentry Mode), ensuring you’ll never miss things like scratches or even car theft.

Sleek screen-less design.

The radar module is an optional item, which is sold in a bundle together with the dashcam for RM559. The package also includes a separate OBD type hardwire kit to enable 24/7 parking monitoring; the dashcam’s IPS Power Management Technology will actively monitor your vehicle’s battery status to prevent battery depletion during parking surveillance.

The DDPai N5 Dual uses a supercapacitor instead of a normal lithium-ion backup battery, to ensure device durability especially in our Malaysian weather. Other features on here include a 32GB on-board backup storage for emergency videos in case of microSD card failures, GPS, voice control, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and even a set of basic driver assistance functions.

DDPai Ranger

DDPai calls the Ranger a “Professional Riding Camera”, which in practice is similar to an action camera like the GoPro, but with specific design considerations to provide a dashcam-like footage for motorcycles and bicycles. That includes special accessories and mounts (sold separately), including a charging base that will provide power to the camera while mounted on your bike’s handlebar.

The Ranger records in 4K resolution at 30 fps, or up to 60 fps if you step down to a 1440p resolution. The lens boasts a 150-degree field of view and an f/1.8 aperture, and it also comes with DDPai’s NightVis and RealCube technologies for better footage.

What sets the Ranger apart, though, is its D-Flow image stabilisation (with horizon lock) that is particularly useful to combat the vibrations on motorbikes. As a “riding camera”, the Ranger is also able to display various telemetry data, including speed, gradient, and altitude on its 1.3-inch screen, thanks to the built-in GPS, gyroscope, magnetometer, and altimeter. All of these data can also be overlaid on the video output.

A 1,600 mAh non-removable battery lets you record up to 110 minutes of 4K footage, or 150 minutes at 1080p full HD. These can of course be extended with a powerbank via the Type-C charging port, or directly through the optional charging base. Your footage will be stored on the built-in 128GB eMMC storage, which the company says is up to 4X faster than a normal microSD card storage and some 10-times more durable, and you can offload the videos onto your phone via the DDPai app through the 5GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.

The DDPai Ranger has a IP67 water and dust resistant rating, so there’s no need to worry about light rain or off-road riding.
