Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé debuts – 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder, RWD, 421hp, 0-100km/h in 4.6 secs

The Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé has just made its debut. Joining the Mercedes-AMG GT55 4MATIC+ and the GT63 4MATIC+, the GT43 Coupé serves as the “entry-level” model to the brand’s AMG GT lineup.

Exterior-wise, the Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé sports a newly designed front apron that features large air inlets that span across the entire width of the vehicle. It is also fitted with narrower front and rear fenders and a reduced track width. Round the back, the AMG GT43 Coupé’s double tailpipes are rounded instead of trapezoidal-shaped. Just in case you find its standard design not aggressive enough for your tastes, the carmaker also offers the optional AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II.

In terms of wheel choices, the Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé is fitted with 19-inch light-alloy wheels as standard. Customers can opt for wheel sizes of up to 21 inches as an option.

Powering the Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé is the brand’s 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-pot engine that makes 421 hp (metric) and 500 Nm, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, onwards an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h. This engine is also found under the hood of the AMG SL43 roadster as well as the AMG A45S 4MATIC+ hot hatch.

Paired with the brand’s AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G automatic transmission that features a wet starting clutch instead of a conventional torque converter, power is sent to the rear wheels only. The performance coupé also features the brand’s electric exhaust gas turbocharger, a technology derived from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team.

The turbocharger is operated via the car’s 48V mild-hybrid system, which also feeds the brand’s belt-driven starter generator (RSG) that is capable of providing an additional short-term boost of 14 hp in certain driving situations. Underpinning the Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé is the brand’s steel spring suspension which features high-performance aluminium shock absorbers and lightweight coil springs.

As standard, there are a total of five AMG Dynamic Select driving programmes to choose from with the Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé. This includes Smooth, Comfort, Sport, and Individual.

Customers can also get an additional Race mode with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus package. This package also includes goodies such as Dynamic AMG engine mounts, electronically controlled AMG rear axle locking differential, yellow painted AMG brake calipers, and a fixed rear wing.

Mercedes-AMG has equipped its latest performance coupé with its AIRPANEL active air control system for better aerodynamics. The horizontal slats behind the upper air inlet can be opened and closed under electronic control. This means that the air flow is directed as needed and thus improves aero performance.

Moving inside, the Mercedes-AMG GT43 Coupé comes with features such as an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display that runs on the German carmaker’s MBUX operating system, as well as Nappa leather AMG sports seats. Customers can opt for the MANUFAKTUR package that packs extras such as seven colour combinations instead of three, along with chrome black decorative elements.
