Gallery: Mercedes-AMG EQE 53, RM650k – when Affalterbach goes electric

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has brought in all of its fully-electric “EQ” offerings into our country. And if you were looking for a little more excitement within the “EQ” lineup, one option that may entice you is the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ – a RM649,888 performance EV that does 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. (Your other option would be the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53).

It looks exactly like the Mercedes-Benz EQE which has already been launched in Malaysia, albeit with a much more aggressive AMG styling. The 21-inch turbine-like wheels stand out the most, and they are complemented by a set of Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres.

And that’s not all with the exterior enhancements of the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+. Despite the lack of an internal combustion engine, the EQE 53 still proudly displays an “EV-fied” Panamericana grille in honour of the AMG moniker that it has adopted. The bumpers on the AMG EQE are sportier too and the larger ducktail spoiler and the rear diffuser complement them.

Standard exterior equipment on the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ include a set of Digital Light LED headlights, flush electric door handles, and black wing mirrors. The AMG EQE measures 4,964 mm long, 1,906 mm wide, and 1,492 mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 3,120 mm long.

A dual-motor setup drives the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ and it makes a whopping 687 hp and 1,000 Nm at maximum with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package and with the “boost” function enabled. This allows for a century sprint time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h.

Supplying electricity to the dual-motor system is a 90.6 kWh battery that is also found in the EQE 350+. This provides the EQE 53 with an electric range of 458 km to 527 km on a single charge.

To charge the battery, the EQE 53 can handle a maximum AC charging rate of 11 kW and a maximum DC charging rate of 170 kW. The former charges the car from flat to full in 9 hours and 15 minutes while the latter charges the car from 10% to 80% in approximately 32 minutes.

One small plus point of getting the EQE 53 over the EQE 350+ would be the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension system that it comes with. Not only is the ride more comfortable, but you also have the freedom to raise the ride height when driving through uneven surfaces.

Inside, the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53+ gets a triple-screen setup on the dashboard, which is another plus point over the EQE 350+. The central screen functions as the head unit and it is equipped with the latest MBUX system.

Standard interior features in the EQE 53 include an AMG steering wheel, silver aluminum paddle shifters, AMG sports pedals, and Microcut microfibre upholstery. Other interior highlights in the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, and a wireless phone charger.

Safety-wise, the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ comes with the brand’s Driving Assistance Plus package, Active Distance Assist (DISTRONIC), Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Steering Assist, and Active Parking Assist. It also gets the Pre-Safe impulse side protection among many other safety features.
