Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport Wide Tread launched in Thailand – approx. RM197k for Japan’s Ranger Raptor



The extreme version of the Hilux, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport Wide Tread has been launched in Thailand, fetching a price of THB 1,499,000 (approx. RM196,759). It is the same version of the Hilux GR Sport that is available in Australia, albeit the addition of the “Wide Tread” moniker.

Sharing similar parts with the ‘normal’ Hilux, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport Wide Tread adds on the following exterior enhancements:

  • Overall width widened by 140 mm
  • Overall height increased by 15 mm
  • Overall length shortened by 5 mm
  • Ground clearance increased by 37 mm
  • Suspension raised by 15 mm
  • Front wheels wider by 140 mm
  • Rear wheels wider by 155 mm
  • Special front grille design
  • Special 17-inch alloy wheels
  • All-terrain BF Goodrich tyres (265/65R17)
  • Special wheel arches

The enhancements to the Toyota Hilux GR Sport are not just cosmetic as its handling and chassis have also been improved with the following enhancements:

  • Monotube shock absorbers
  • Out-board installation of rear shock absorbers (placed outside chassis)
  • Rear disc brakes with cooling fins

As for its performance, it sports the same 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine found in the Malaysian-spec Toyota Hilux GR Sport. So it makes the same 224 hp (metric) and 550 Nm, which is higher than the ‘normal’ Hilux with the 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine (204 hp, 500 Nm). Paired with the boosted 2.8L turbodiesel engine is a 6-speed automatic transmission. Like other 4×4 Hilux trucks, this version of the Hilux utilizes a part-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) system.

Inside, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport Wide Tread gets a few enhancements as well:

  • larger 10.25-inch touchscreen head unit
  • Special carbon-esque interior trims
  • auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • USB-C ports for rear passengers

As for safety, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport Wide Tread gets the complete set of safety equipment. This includes the DRCC variable cruise system, DSC emergency lane protection system, PCS-Pre-collision safety system, and 7 airbags.
