Gallery: 2023 Range Rover Sport L461, all-terrain luxury for RM1.7m

If ultimate road presence is your utmost priority (followed by ultimate luxury on and off the road), the Range Rover Sport (L461) that you see right here might just be the perfect car for you. It was launched in Malaysia in October 2023, and it currently retails at RM1,698,000 after duties.

This is the third-generation Range Rover Sport and in Malaysia, the sole variant that has been launched in the Range Rover Sport Dynamic HSE P400 AWD MHEV. Other variants are listed in the Malaysian brochure, but for now, we only have an official price for the variant that you see right here.

And while this latest-generation Range Rover Sport reached our shores in October 2023, it was unveiled to the world back in May 2022. Compared to its predecessor, the L494, the new Range Rover Sport has evolved the model’s exterior design whilst retaining its signature look. The headlights and the grille are now slimmer, and the bumper gets a cleaner overall design with a minimalist touch.

Many design elements from the old Range Rover Sport are here to stay such as the trim on the front fenders and the boxy upright cabin. Some elements though have been “trimmed” and refined such as the smoother shoulder line indent and the smoother transition between the sides and the bulge of the wheel arches. Its most drastic exterior design change would be its taillights which are now bridged by a black trim, but it hasn’t succumbed to the continuous light strip design trend.

Under the hood is a 48V mild hybrid powertrain which comprises a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 engine and an electric drive system. Its system output is 400 hp (metric) and 550 Nm. The transmission in use is an 8-speed automatic from ZF and it transmits power to all four wheels.

With the inline-6 mild hybrid setup, the Range Rover Sport can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 242 km/h.

Inside, the 2023 Range Rover Sport adopts a minimalistic theme for a distraction-free driving experience. The dashboard is fitted with a 13.1-inch curved touchscreen head unit which is powered by the Pivi Pro infotainment system. It can connect to your phone via wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other digital displays in the Range Rover Sport’s cabin are the 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster, the head-up display, and the ClearSight interior rear-view mirror. That ClearSight rear-view mirror is connected to a camera that is mounted on the roof of the car, hence the “dual-shark fin” setup.

Luxuries aside, the L461 Range Rover Sport in Malaysia is fitted with an extensive set of safety equipment. This includes Adaptive cruise control (ACC) with steering assist, Lane keep assist (LKA), Traffic sign recognition (TSR), Emergency braking, Wade sensing, Adaptive speed limiter, Driver condition response, Occupant protection assist, Park assist, 3D surround camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
