The wait is over – Tesla Model Y deliveries in Malaysia finally begins

Tesla Malaysia has started deliveries of the Tesla Model Y starting yesterday (March 12, 2024). Customers took delivery of their Model Y all-electric SUV at Tesla Malaysia’s Cyberjaya Experience Centre.

Officially launched in conjunction with the Tesla brand in Malaysia back in July 2023, the Tesla Model Y is offered in three variants, namely the Model Y RWD, Model Y Long Range Dual Motor AWD, and the Model Y Performance. Prices for the American all-electric SUV start at RM199,000.

The entry-level Tesla Model Y RWD in Malaysia is powered by a rear-mounted single motor setup that pushes out 347 hp and 420 Nm, and thanks to a 57.5 kWh battery pack, it is capable of travelling as far as 455 km (WLTP). The Model Y Long Range Dual Motor AWD on the other hand, as its name suggests, features a dual motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that puts out 514 hp and 493 Nm, along with a 75 kWh battery pack which enables the car to carry you as far as 533 km (WLTP).

The range-topping Model Y Performance also sports a dual motor AWD setup, just like the Long Range AWD variant, but produces more power to the wheels at 534 hp and 660 Nm. The Model Y Performance also features a 75 kWh battery pack, but its WLTP all-electric range is slightly shorter at 514 km due to its more powerful motors.

Despite having made its launch earlier in Malaysia than its sedan sibling, the Model 3, which was launched later in October 2023. It is also to note that the Model Y sold in Malaysia isn’t the latest updated model that is currently available in markets such as China.

To summarise, the updated Model Y features new features such as a new textile dashboard material, and new RGB ambient lighting which comes with multiple colours that customers can choose to their heart’s content. Aside from design changes, the all-electric range for the RWD and Long Range AWD variants has been increased by up to 4.2%, while the updated Model Y RWD can now accelerate faster too.
