Proton S70: 1,442 units delivered in 2024, over 8,000 bookings received

Proton has delivered 1,442 units of the Proton S70 in 2024 thus far, making the S70 the best-selling C-segment saloon in Malaysia for January. This has been achieved in just less than three months since order books for the car were opened, and just slightly over two months since the sedan’s launch.

Proton has also received over 8,000 bookings for the Proton S70, marking a surge of 3,000 bookings since December 2023. Besides in Malaysia, Proton has also delivered 15 units of its new saloon to Brunei, ahead of the car’s official launch there in February.

During the official launch of the S70 in Malaysia, the national carmaker also set a target of selling 3,000 units of the Proton S70 for the first year after its launch. And judging by the company’s progress so far, it is certainly on track to hit or even exceed the goal.

The Proton S70’s sales also contributed to Proton’s best start to a year since 2013. The company sold a total of 12,882 cars in January, exceeding its sales record from the previous month as well as January 2023.

Proton Edar Chief Executive Officer, Roslan Abdullah said, “Proton is thrilled to start 2024 strongly, highlighted by the strong delivery numbers for our latest addition, the Proton S70. The enthusiastic response to our lineup confirms how our models resonate with buyers searching for innovative vehicles. Rest assured, we are fully dedicated to meeting the heightened demand from our customers, and the team is diligently working to ensure timely deliveries, to ensure customer expectations are not only met but exceeded.”

“Currently, many project Malaysian automotive sales to contract in 2024 after a record-setting year in 2023 due to factors such as increase in SST as well as the introduction of the luxury goods tax. Proton however remains optimistic our strong start to the year will set the tone for the next 11 months as we target more sales growth with our continued focus on innovation, quality and customer service”, added the CEO.

To recap, the Proton S70 is available in four variants, namely the Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X, and is priced from RM73,800 to RM94,800. Under the bonnets of all four variants is the same 1.5-litre turbo inline-3 MPI engine, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This results in 150 hp (metric) and 226 Nm sent to the front wheels.
