Isuzu D-Max: 9,650 units sold in 2023, No.2 in Sabah, Penang, Kedah

Isuzu Malaysia announced that it sold 9,650 units of the Isuzu D-Max in 2022, showing a 439-unit boost from 9,211 units sold in 2022. In 2023, the D-Max was the third best-selling pickup truck nationwide (with 16.6% market share) and the second best-selling pickup truck in Sabah, Kedah, and Pahang.

Of the 9,650 units sold last year, 28% of that were contributed by the 1.9-litre Standard variant of the D-Max. Isuzu says that the base standard variant has been particularly popular due to its modest engine displacement that offers the benefit of lower road tax and lower running costs yet offers spirited performance from its impressively generous power and torque output.

At the other end of the spectrum of the D-Max is the flagship X-Terrain which showed a positive uptrend in 2023, growing by 24.5% since its launch. Impressive considering how relatively new it is to the premium pick-up truck segment.

Isuzu Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shunsuke Okazoe said, “Since the third-generation D-Max was introduced into Malaysia in 2021, interest in this model has remained consistently high thanks to its good features, excellent driving character, versatile operation, and impressive value for money. This new model has expanded our customer base by increasing our conquest sales by 185% while retaining our strong core customer base,”

He adds, “This third-generation Isuzu D-Max has been a revelation for the brand as it combines the best of Isuzu’s engineering capability with the modern sophistication and mindful ergonomics that customers today demand. This makes the D-Max a very capable yet liveable pickup truck, satisfying every pick-up user’s needs. It is a truck for all.”

The Isuzu D-Max is made available in 8 variants in Malaysia with 4X4, 4X2, single cab, and double cab configurations. Engine options include a 1.9-litre turbodiesel or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine. The D-Max is available with both automatic and manual transmission options.
