UMW Toyota Motor has now released a statement in regard to the recent Daihatsu safety scandal, which has resulted in the temporary suspension of sales and shipment of the Toyota Rush, Veloz, Vios, and Yaris here in Malaysia, alongside all Perodua models.

In response to the “procedural irregularities” disclosure in Japan, UMW Toyota Motor said in its statement that it will be working with local regulatory authorities to ensure its vehicles are all in adherence to safety requirements set by the regulations.

Commenting on the issue, UMW Toyota Motor President, Ravindran K. said, “We emphasise our dedication to maintaining the highest standards and quality in our vehicles. Rest assured, we are actively working to ensure that all our vehicles in Malaysia strictly adhere to the relevant regulations and rules.

“We understand the importance of trust, and we want to reinforce the confidence our customers place in us. Our dedication to customer satisfaction has always been and remains our top priority.”

The latest Daihatsu safety fiasco stems from a third-party investigation, in response to the rigging of its safety tests that was brought to light in April. The investigation found “procedural irregularities” in 174 items within 25 test categories, and involves 64 models and three engines of vehicles, including 22 models and one engine beings old under the Toyota brand.

Daihatsu has since carried out several in-house technical verifications and vehicle testing to ensure their safety and environmental performance meet legal standards, in response to the findings. The company emphasises that the performance on these cars all meet regulations standards, with the validity of the verification results and process confirmed by TUV Rheinland Japan, a third-party certification organisation.
