Video: 2024 BYD Seal walkaround & test drive review in China

BYD invited us to Guangzhou, China to check out and test drive its all-electric Seal sedan at the Zhuhai International Circuit. Wondering how the all-electric sedan performed at the circuit on a rainy day? Follow Eu Jin on his vlog to find out.

Referred to as the “Tesla killer” in some parts of the internet, the BYD Seal is offered with three variants for the Thai and Singaporean markets- namely the entry-level Dynamic RWD, the Premium, and the AWD Performance.

Performance-wise, the BYD Seal Dynamic RWD is powered by a rear-mounted single-motor setup that puts out 150 kW (203 hp) and 310 Nm. Thanks to a 61.4 kWh LFP blade battery, the all-electric sedan in its base variant is able to travel as far as 460 km (WLTP) on a single charge.

The BYD Seal Premium also sports a rear-mounted single-motor setup, but unlike the Dynamic RWD, it puts out slightly more power at 230 kW (313 hp) and 360 Nm. Its larger 82.5 kWh LFP battery also enables it to travel further at 570 km (650 km NEDC).

The top of the line AWD Performance variant sports a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, which gives the all-electric sedan a healthy dose of 530 hp and 670 Nm. The same 82.5 kWh battery pack that is also found in the Premium variant provides the all-electric sedan with 520 km (580 km NEDC) of range.

Charging-wise, all variants are able to handle a maximum AC charging rate of 7 kW. As for DC charging, the Dynamic RWD can be charged at a maximum rate of 110 kW, while the Premium and Performance can handle a maximum rate of 150 kW.

Already launched in Thailand and Singapore, the BYD Seal has just been teased in Malaysia for the second time, and is set to make its launch here sometime in 2024. However, Sime Darby Beyond Auto, the sole distributor for the BYD brand here in Malaysia, has yet to confirm which variant(s) will be offered in Malaysia upon its official launch.
