BYD Seal EV launched in Thailand and Singapore – Malaysia soon?

The BYD Seal has made its market launch in Thailand and Singapore, ahead of its planned introduction in Malaysia. The electric sedan from China is available in three variants in both markets, priced from THB1,325,000 (approx. RM169k) in Thailand and SGD242,888 (approx. RM835k) in Singapore.

On the low end is the Dynamic RWD variant, which features a single electric motor on the rear axle, capable of outputting 150 kW (203 hp) and 310 Nm, for a century sprint in under 7.5 seconds. The electric motor is fed by a 61.4 kWh LFP Blade battery pack, resulting in a rated range of 460 km based on the WLTP test cycle (510 km NEDC).

Next in the range is the BYD Seal Premium, which gets a larger 82.5 kWh LFP battery for a range of 570 km (650 km NEDC). The battery also raises the motor’s output on the rear axle up to 230 kW (313 hp) and 360 Nm, translating to a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds.

Stepping up to the range-topping AWD Performance variant will net you an additional motor on the front axle for an all-wheel drive set-up with 530 hp and 670 Nm. The BYD Seal AWD Performance does 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, and will travel up to 520 km (580 km NEDC) thanks to the same 82.5 kWh battery pack.

All variants support vehicle-to-load (V2L) to power other electrical equipment. As for charging, the Dynamic supports DC fast charging up to 110 kW, while the two higher-end variants are capable of 150 kW fast charging. Standard AC charging is limited to 7 kW across the range.

In terms of standard equipment, all variants of the BYD Seal come fitted from the factory with LED exterior lighting, panoramic glass roof, powered front seats, a two screen set-up consisting of a 10.25-inch instrumentation display and 15.6-inch (rotating) central infotainment display, a 12-speaker DYNAUDIO sound system, and a long list of advanced driver assistance features.

The two higher end variants add 19-inch alloy wheels (18-inch on Dynamic), electric lumbar adjustments for the front passenger, leather upholstery, and a head-up display. Exclusive to the range-topping BYD Seal AWD Performance is also the Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) adaptive shock absorbers, alongside a sports suspension tuning and intelligent torque control to fit its athletic persona.

Back home in Malaysia, the BYD Seal has already been previewed here last December when the Atto 3 made its local debut. Various reports have suggested that the fully electric sedan will be launched here in Malaysia by the fourth quarter of 2023, which means we probably won’t have to wait too much longer. As always, keep your eyes peeled on AutoBuzz.my for the latest news on the BYD Seal here in Malaysia.
