2023 Smart #1 launched in Malaysia – from RM189k, 3 variants, up to 440km range



The long-awaited 2023 Smart #1 has finally been launched in Malaysia. Offered in three variants – Pro, Premium, and Brabus, prices start from RM189,000 (OTR, without insurance).

  • Smart #1 Pro – RM189,000
  • Smart #1 Premium – RM219,000
  • Smart #1 Brabus – RM249,000

The Smart #1 is built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which is the same platform that underpins the Volvo EX30. Dimension-wise, both the Smart #1 Pro and Premium measure 4,270 mm long, 1,822 mm wide, and 1,636 mm tall, and are underpinned by a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

The sportier Brabus variant, on the other hand, is pretty much the same size as the Pro and Premium variants, but is a tad bit longer at 4,300 mm.

On the outside, all variants of the Smart #1 in Malaysia get LED headlamps, albeit different types, along with 19-inch alloys, and a power tailgate. As expected, the Smart #1 Brabus gets a sportier exterior design, thanks to the Brabus aero kit. The higher-end Premium and Brabus variants also get luminous side logos that pulse when the car is being charged.

The Smart #1 in Malaysia features a total of 10 colour combinations. This includes Future Green, Quantum Blue, Digital White, Cyber Silver, Lumen Yellow, Laser Red, Atom Grey – Matte (Atom Roof), Atom Grey – Matte (Red Roof), Cyber Silver (Red Roof), and Meta Black (Red Roof). The Atom Grey – Matte colour option costs an additional RM5,000.

Standard exterior equipment included with the Smart #1 Pro in Malaysia are:

  • CyberSparks LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRL)
  • Manual headlamp levelling
  • 19-inch amp alloy wheels
  • Power tailgate
  • Roof rails

The Smart #1 Premium gets these extras:

  • Cybersparks LED and Matrix LED headlamps with adaptive high beam (AHB)

Performance-wise, the Smart #1 Pro and Premium in Malaysia feature a single motor setup that delivers a maximum output of 272 hp (metric) and 343 Nm to the rear wheels. To better suit the driver’s needs, Smart has packed its new EV with three drive modes – Eco, Comfort, and Sport.

The top-of-the-range Brabus variant on the other hand is powered by a dual-motor setup that pushes 428 hp (metric) and 543 Nm to all four wheels. Like its more affordable Pro and Premium counterparts, the Smart #1 Brabus gets the same drive modes, with the addition of a Brabus mode, which comes with an engine sound that simulates an Italian V6.

Range-wise, the entry-level Smart #1 Pro in Malaysia is said to be able to travel as far as 315 km (WLTP) thanks to its 49 kWh LFP battery. The Premium variant on the other hand can travel further up to 440 km (WLTP), thanks to its 66 kWh ternary (NCM) battery.

Despite the Smart #1 Brabus also sporting the same battery capacity as the Premium variant, it has a shorter range of 400 km (WLTP) due to the more powerful dual motors.
