Pro-Net, the new energy subsidiary of Proton, has announced that it has handed over a fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) to the Ministry of Transport (MOT). The delivery includes the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5), eMAS 7 PHEV (stylised as e.MAS 7 PHEV), and the Smart #1. This is part of a government-led initiative to evaluate electric vehicles for official use.
This latest handover follows a previous ceremony where several automotive brands loaned their EVs to the Ministry. That earlier batch included the Smart #3 and Leapmotor C10, which were added into the fleet to evaluate practicality, performance, and suitability for the MOT’s operations.
Proton Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to accelerate Malaysia’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
“We are honoured to support the Ministry of Transport in this initiative by providing the Proton eMAS 5, eMAS 7, eMAS 7 PHEV and Smart #1 for evaluation. Initiatives like this allow stakeholders to experience EV technology firsthand, which plays an important role in shaping policies, infrastructure development and the broader adoption of electric mobility in Malaysia.”
These efforts also align with the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030, which aims to decarbonise the land transport sector in Malaysia. The LCMB focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting the adoption of EVs for a cleaner, more sustainable transportation ecosystem. Crucially, it sets a national target of 15% electrified vehicle adoption by 2030.

Beyond government evaluation, the brand is seeing significant traction in the consumer market. Pro-Net recently announced that the Proton eMAS 5 has surpassed the 5,000-unit delivery milestone within just two months of its launch. Meanwhile, the eMAS 7 PHEV has received over 3,500 bookings within one and a half months of its market introduction.
The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is available in three variants: Prime, Premium, and Premium Plus. Prices for the national brand’s first PHEV model start at RM109,800, RM123,800, and RM129,800, respectively.
Powering the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder dedicated hybrid engine underneath the bonnet, producing 99 hp/125 Nm. This is paired with an 11-in-1 integrated dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), enabling series-parallel hybrid capabilities. A traction electric motor is integrated into the DHT, delivering 218 hp/262 Nm to the front wheels, resulting in a combined max system output of 262 hp and 262 Nm.
