2023 Mazda 6 “20th Anniversary Edition” launched in Malaysia – three variants, from RM180k

Bermaz Motor has unveiled the updated 2023 Mazda 6 here in Malaysia, with a new “20th Anniversary Edition” variant at the top of the range to celebrate 20 years since the first-generation Mazda 6 was released in 2002. Designed to “express gratitude to all Mazda customers”, the new 2023 model comes equipped with enhanced equipment across the range.

The new 2023 Mazda 6 20th Anniversary Edition is available in three variants, with prices starting from RM180,359 on-the-road without insurance, and will be showcased at the Bermaz Auto event at Oval Concourse, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, from the 11th to 15th October 2023, 10:00 AM to 10:00PM daily.

Powertrain options remain identical to before, with the entry-level variant powered by a 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G inline-four engine with 162 hp and 213 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six speed automatic gearbox (with manual shift mode via gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel), resulting in a top speed of 205 km/h.

The two higher-end variants, namely the 2.5L Touring and 2.5L High Plus Sedan 20th Anniversary Edition, meanwhile get a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated SkyActiv-G inline-four mill, providing up to 192 hp and 258 Nm. Front-wheel drive is standard, and they both also achieve higher top speeds thanks to their more powerful engine, at 218 km/h and 223 km/h respectively.

The entry-level 2.0-litre sedan variant is equipped with silver 17-inch wheels, while the mid-spec 2.5-litre Touring gets a set of 19-inch alloys, finished in black to complement its black grille.

The new 2023 Mazda 6 will be offered in 10 exterior colours, including a new special Artisan Red Premium exclusive to the 20th Anniversary Edition variant that utilises Mazda’s unique Takuminuri painting technology that creates a “precise, high-quality paint finish as if applied by the hands of a skilled craftsman”.

Inside, the 20th Anniversary Edition gets tan-coloured leather seats with its eponymous logo embossed onto the front seat headrests, while the lower end variants have to suffice with black and burgundy leather upholstery.

As the range-topping offering, the 20th Anniversary Edition also comes with several additional creature comfort goodies not available in the lower variants, including a new seven-inch multi-info display in the instrument cluster, rear window sunshade, as well as seat ventilation for the front powered seats.

The head-up display, Bose 11-speaker sound system, powered sunroof, 360-degree surround view monitor, and Mazda’s i-Activsense suite of advanced driver assistance features are only reserved for the two 2.5L variants, the latter including features such as front and rear autonomous emergency braking, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with stop and go functionalitiy, as well as Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS).

All variants however come with a new Qi wireless charging pad as standard, alongside the 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.
