Shell Recharge’s first pay-by-usage EV chargers coming soon at Pavilion KL – from RM1/kWh

Shell Recharge’s first pay-by-usage EV chargers in Malaysia are now here at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall. The location – situated behind the Tesla Superchargers in the basement car park – will feature one 60 kW DC fast charger (twin CCS2 nozzles) and one 22 kW AC fast charger (twin type 2 nozzles), for a total of four charging bays.

While the chargers are still not yet operational, its pricing structure has now been revealed via the ParkEasy mobile app, as spotted by SoyaCincau. As of the time of writing, though, the listing has since been removed ahead of its official introduction.

In contrast to all other chargers within the Shell Recharge EV charging network, the charging fees for the new AC and DC chargers in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will be calculated based on your actual power usage (in kWh), rather than by time.

The DC chargers will cost 1.50 credits (equivalent to RM1.50) per kWh, while the AC chargers’ rate is set at 1.00 credit (RM1) per kWh used. On top of the power usage, each charging session will also incur a 5.00 credits (RM5) confirmation fee on charger activation.

To deter users from hogging the chargers, the new Shell Recharge EV chargers in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will also implement an idle fee, with a 15-minute grace period. After the first 15 minutes, the user will be charged a 1.00 credit (RM1) fee for every subsequent five minutes, for as long as the vehicle remains connected to the charger after it is done charging.

Of course, the charging rates also do not include the existing parking fees charged by Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, which starts at RM3 per hour, or RM8 (RM10 on weekends) per entry after 5 pm.

No official word yet on the chargers’ official launch, although we presume it won’t be too much longer, as they seem to already be in a fully-operational state, bar the “coming soon” placards stuck onto the chargers. Interestingly, the chargers at Pavilion KL don’t seem to feature the app-activated barriers as seen on other Shell Recharge locations.
