2023 Honda Civic Type R (FL5) launched in Malaysia – RM399,900, only 19 units



Honda Malaysia has launched the 2023 Honda Civic Type R (FL5) in the country, and it fetches a price of RM399,900. Yes, the long-awaited Japanese hot hatch is finally here in Malaysia, going against the EV trend of the year. Only 19 units are available and they are sold via a ballot system. So you will need some luck to go along with the money you have to get the FL5 in Malaysia.

Based on the hatchback version of the Civic, the FL5 Civic Type R has a wider track (by 1 inch at the front and 0.75 inches at the rear) and a 1.4-inch longer wheelbase than the standard version. Together with its Type R-exclusive body panels, it is a special red-badged Honda which you can’t get by simply ‘converting’ a regular one. Easily recognisable by its hatchback profile, the FL5 Civic Type R sports go faster bits like the special Type R spoiler, special Type R body panels, gloss black aero bits, red brake callipers, and 19-inch wheels. The turbocharger’s geometry has been optimised, allowing pressure to be generated at a broader range and more efficiently. As for the 6-speed manual transmission, Honda has enhanced it with a lighter flywheel, a revised rev match system, a high-rigidity lever, and an optimized shift gate pattern. A helical-type LSD is also present on the 2022 Honda Civic Type R (FL5). Its performance facts and figures are as such:
