BMW i5 specs confirmed for Malaysia – eDrive40 & M60 xDrive

The BMW i5 has been confirmed to be offered in two specifications here in Malaysia. These are the BMW i5 eDrive40 and the i5 M60 xDrive, as seen on the updated model page on BMW Malaysia’s website.

The all-new G60 generation BMW 5 Series and the all-electric i5 first made their global debut back in May. Before the global debut, registration of interest (ROI) for the all-new BMW i5 has been open in Malaysia since March this year.

Despite the specs confirmation, prices for the BMW i5 have yet to be announced for the Malaysian market. The outgoing G30 generation BMW 5 Series 530e M Sport plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant carries a starting price of RM360,800, while the 530i M Sport is available from RM410,800 onwards. If anything, this could be indicative of the price of the upcoming all-new G60 generation BMW 530e, whose specs have yet to be announced globally.

However, it is to be noted that, unlike the outgoing BMW 5 Series, the upcoming all-electric BMW i5 will still enjoy the EV tax exemptions upon arrival in Malaysia. The EV tax exemption will end in 2025, if the status quo remains.

Therefore, a more realistic reference point would be the BMW i4, whose prices start from RM273,800 for the eDrive35 variant, while the range-topping M50 goes for RM445,800. Both prices include the brand’s 5-year Extended Warranty & Service Package. Since the BMW i5 is positioned above the i4, we can certainly expect its price to hover above the i4’s price range.

Aside from the all-electric BMW i5 variants, the latest-generation G60 BMW 5 Series is also available with mild hybrid (MHEV) and PHEV powertrains. However, there hasn’t been information on when these variants of the all-new BMW 5 Series will be coming to the Malaysian market just yet.
