Toyota GR86 40th Anniversary Limited Edition debuts – 200 units only

Toyota has just launched a new variant of the Toyota GR86 family for the Japanese domestic market, known as the Toyota GR86 RZ 40th Anniversary Limited Edition. As its name suggests, this limited edition is made to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno, also known as the ‘Hachiroku’ or ‘eight-six’, which made its launch back in 1983.

Created based on the Japanese market’s top-spec RZ variant, the Toyota GR86 RZ 40th Anniversary Limited Edition is available for the Japanese market only via lottery. With only 200 units available, two colour options are offered with the Toyota GR86 RZ 40th Anniversary Limited Edition, namely white and red. Both colours are paired with a series of black elements to create a two-tone effect.

The limited edition sports car also comes with 40th Anniversary decals, as well as its door handles and an aggressive-looking GR rear spoiler finished in black. Like other GR86 variants, it is also fitted with a set of 18-inch dark grey aluminium wheels.

Like the Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition, Toyota Japan has fitted the GR86 RZ 40th Anniversary Limited Edition with Brembo ventilated disc brakes, as well as Sachs (ZF) absorbers. These two items can also be optionally fitted onto the “regular” SZ grades and above.

As for its powertrain, it is still powered by the same 2.4-litre inline-four Boxer engine paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. This results in a total of 228 hp and 249 Nm, with power sent to the rear wheels.

Hop inside the limited edition sports car, you will find an interior finished in black and red, including its Ultrasuede front seats. There are also 40th Anniversary GR floor mats and embroideries as well.

In the safety department, the limited edition GR86 is fitted with Subaru’s EyeSight ADAS suite as standard, just like the regular RZ variant it is based on. This consists of safety features such as pre-collision braking (PCB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), along with lane departure warning (LDW) with sway warning.

Price-wise, the 6-speed manual transmission Toyota GR86 RZ 40th Anniversary Limited Edition is offered at 3,822,000 yen (approx. RM120,906). The 6-speed automatic transmission on the other hand is priced at 3,920,000 yen (approx. RM124,006).

Closer to home, the Toyota GR86’s price point starts from RM295,000 for the manual option, while the automatic variant can be yours at RM305,000. Both prices are on-the-road, and without insurance.
