2023 JMC Vigus Pro White Series launched in Malaysia – basic double-cab workhorse variant, from RM100k

Angka-Tan Motor has unveiled a new variant of its JMC Vigus Pro pick-up truck, dubbed the White Series, that is designed primarily as a workhorse vehicle for corporates and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Named after the basic pure white exterior paint job, the new JMC Vigus Pro White Series is said to offer “unrivalled value in the pick-up truck segment in Malaysia”, coming in at RM99,888 on-the-road without insurance, making it the “best-priced” automatic transmission 4×4 workhorse variant in the one-tonne pick-up segment.

The existing Premium Series variant, meanwhile, is priced from RM105,888.

The new 2023 JMC Vigus Pro White Series essentially takes the Premium Series variant that was launched back in 2021, and stripped it of its fancy equipment, leaving just the essential features and “focusing on performance”.

As such, you’ll still find the same 2.0-litre turbodiesel mill with 141 hp and 340 Nm underneath the bonnet, paired to a “first-in-class” ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a BorgWarner 4WD system with a low-range transfer box. No performance figures were provided, but JMC does mention a fuel efficiency rating of 7.8 litre/100 km on the UNECE R101 test cycle.

Despite its focus on affordability, the JMC Vigus Pro White Series still look largely identical to its Premium counterpart, save for the sole pure white exterior colour option. It still comes equipped with the same halogen headlights and LED daytime-running lights, same rugged-looking body kit, same sports bar and side steps, and even the same 16-inch alloy wheels.

Where you’ll start to find the cost-cutting measures is when you step into the cabin, as the White Series does without the door sill plates, as well as the factory-fitted window tint. The leatherette upholstery has also been traded for fabric seats, while creature comfort features like the built-in dashcam and the tailgate assist gas struts have also been removed.

The rest of the cabin, though, remains identical to the Premium Series variant, including the analogue instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch TFT multi-info display in the centre, the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display paired to four speakers, the leather-wrapped steering wheel with gearshift paddles, and the manual climate control.

Safety equipment is also unchanged, covering the usual basic passive safety systems such as ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, and hill decent control systems. A reverse camera is also still available here just like the Premium variant, as are the front and rear parking sensors.

To further drop the pricing down, the locally-assembled JMC Vigus Pro White Series will come with only a three-year or 100,000 km warranty, as opposed to the five-year or 150,000 km warranty of the Premium Series variant.

Customers can opt for a range of utility-focused accessories, including the roller shutters and the canopy for the rear truck bed, depending on their requirements. All accessories will come with a one-year standard warranty.
