Video: 2023 BMW M2 – Probably the last ICE M Car, now in Malaysia from RM599k

With the threat of electrification fast approaching, the days of the pure fossil fuel-powered sports cars are undoubtedly numbered. And today, we might be looking at BMW M’s last-ever pure ICE model – the all-new second-generation BMW M2. But hey, at least they’ve made it memorable, right?

We’re of course talking about its design, which is, well, divisive to say the least. To some (i.e. me), it’s just a weird mishmash of curved shapes with contradicting straight profile lines, but for the others, it’s yet another masterpiece from the Munich-based carmaker.

No matter what you think of how it looks, though, there won’t be any disagreements when it comes to performance, because underneath the bonnet of the all-new 2023 BMW M2 is the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six mill that you’ll also find in its bigger brothers, the M3 and M4.

Despite being down-tuned to 460 hp and 550 Nm, the second-generation BMW M2 still accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds, with power sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox – the only option available for Malaysians (unfortunately). Top speed is rated at 250 km/h, but the optional M Driver’s Package raises its electronic limit up to 285 km/h for those who are up for more thrills.

For the price of RM598,800, the all-new 2023 BMW M2 in Malaysia comes as standard with LED adaptive headlights, the staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M light alloy wheels, Adaptive M Suspension, and a typical BMW interior headlined by the BMW Curved Display atop the dashboard.

If you’re looking for a little more pizazz, consider the BMW M2 with Pro Package priced at RM642,800, which nets you more blacked out bits on the outside, an actual carbon fibre roof, carbon fibre trims on the inside, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a splash of M colours on the seatbelts for you to flaunt your brand allegiance.
