Under the Nissan Ambition 2030 long-term vision, Nissan plans to launch a total of 19 EV models by fiscal year 2030 (FY2030), which will include new EVs powered by its own in-house developed solid state batteries by fiscal year 2028. Thus far, Nissan’s global EV sales has surpassed the 1 million unit milestone, with Japan, US, Europe, and China being their largest EV markets.
The Japanese carmaker launched its first EV model, the Nissan Leaf, back in December 2010, and has since sold more than 650,000 units of the electric hatchback. Fast-forward to 2022, the Nissan Ariya all-electric crossover was born, featuring not just Nissan’s latest design language, but also its latest technologies.
These include the brand’s EV-specific e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, as well as the ProPilot 2.0 ADAS suite. The Ariya has also won multiple awards, including the Auto Color Award 2021 Grand Prix in Japan, and the Red Dot Design Award in Germany.

In the same year, Nissan created the small and cheerful Sakura, which became the Japanese Kei car market’s first EV. Since its launch, Nissan has now received cumulative orders of 50,000 units for the model, thanks to the car’s practicality and compact size, which makes commuting through narrow spaces and parking much easier.
Just like the Ariya, the Sakura is also an award-winning model from Nissan. Among awards given to the Nissan Sakura include the 2023 RJC Car of the Year, as well as the 2023 JAHFA Car of the Year award. The Sakura was also the first mini-vehicle to win the 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year award.
Closer to home, the 2023 Nissan Leaf EV is offered in a single variant, with a price tag of RM168,888 (OTR, without insurance). Just in case you prefer not to be fully committed to the Leaf, it is also available with a 3-year subscription plan which costs RM1,800 per month.
