Changes to the outside are subtle as the new Nissan Leaf sports a new front bumper with a new black aero ‘grille’ at the front. Gone is the chrome trim that used to adorn the front fascia. Adding aggressiveness to the Leaf’s looks are the new black inner finishings on the headlights.

There is also a new Nissan emblem that is proudly perched on the ‘grille’. The most important change to the front end, however, is under its charging flap. Under the flap is now a Type 2 socket for AC charging which means you no longer require an adapter to charge at most of the public charging stations in Malaysia. For DC charging however, it is still done via a CHAdeMO socket.

Most visually striking on the Leaf’s exterior are the new 17-inch wheels which have a claw-like motif. The wheels are wrapped in a set of Dunlop Enasave tyres. At the back, the Leaf gets a redesigned rear spoiler and a redesigned rear diffuser. Like the front end, there is also the new Nissan emblem.

There are now 7 colour options for the Nissan Leaf, namely Stealth Grey, Akatsuki Sunrise Copper, Opera Mauve, Vivid Blue, Midnight Black, Burgundy, and Pure White Pearl. All colour options come with a ‘Super Black’ roof.

Powering the Nissan leaf is the same single electric motor as before. The motor powers the front wheels only and makes a total output of 150 hp (metric) and 320 Nm. 0-100 km/h is done in 7.9 seconds and the Leaf has a top speed of 155 km/h.

As before, the Nissan Leaf for Malaysia still gets the same 40kWH battery pack that still doesn’t get any form of active cooling. The battery is passively cooled and provides a total range of 311 km on the NEDC test cycle.

Charging can be done at a maximum rate of 6.6 kW with AC charging and 50 kW with DC charging. 6.6-kW AC charging takes 7 hours to complete while 50-kW Dc charging takes 1 hour to complete. You also have the option to charge with a 3-pin AC socket at 3.6kW, and this will take 12 hours to complete.

On the inside, things remain largely the same as before, but you do now get a new 8-inch head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Smartphone connectivity. The most interesting thing perhaps inside the Nissan leaf is the intelligent rear view mirror that is connected with a camera placed underneath the third brake light. With this setup, you are able to ‘see through’ your rear passengers to get a good view of your surroundings.

The driver seat in the Leaf is manually adjustable but you do get seat heating functions for both front row seats. The steering wheel only gets tilt adjustment. Interior upholstery colour options include Stone Grey and Graphite Black.

Safety-wise, the 2023 Nissan Leaf is equipped with High Beam Assist, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Around View Monitor with Intelligent Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Intelligent Ride Control, Intelligent Trace Control, and Hill Start Assist.

The 2023 Nissan Leaf is all yours for RM 168,888. Included in the price is a 3-year/100,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty. Optional items include:
