Toyota Hilux finally outsells Isuzu D-Max in Thailand – 9,242 units sold in June 2023



In June this year, the Toyota Hilux finally outsold the Isuzu D-Max in terms of monthly sales with a total of 9,242 units sold. The D-Max in comparison, recorded a total of 9,093 units sold last month. In the first 5 months of 2023, the Isuzu D-Max consistently lead the monthly sales chart for pickup trucks in Thailand.

In June, the pick-up truck segment in Thailand was led by the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max, followed by the Ford Ranger with 2,034 units sold. The rest of the pack includes the Mitsubishi Triton with 1,350 units, the Nissan Navara with 245 units, the MG Extender with 80 units, and the Mazda BT-50 with 78 units.

In terms of year-to-date sales figures, however, the Isuzu D-Max remains the chart leader with a total of 66,680 units sold from January to June 2023. The Hilux follows behind with 58,782 units sold. In third place is the Ford Ranger with 13,783 units, the Mitsubishi Triton with 7,601 units, the Nissan Navara with 1,672 units, the Mazda BT-50 with 552 units, and the MG Extender with 551 units.

The month of June saw a dip in total sales of pickup trucks with 22,122 units sold compared to 22,424 trucks sold in May. June is currently the second lowest in terms of monthly sales of pickup trucks in Thailand, although the Toyota Hilux leads the pack.

In Malaysia, the situation is quite the opposite of Thailand for the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max. As of last year, the Toyota Hilux is still the best-selling pickup truck in Malaysia. For the Malaysian market, the Toyota Hilux is offered in single-cab and double-cab versions with either the 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine or the 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine. There is also a GR Sport version of the double-cab pickup truck.

The latest development on the Toyota Hilux is that it will soon be offered with a mild hybrid system. The mild hybrid system will be paired with the 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine and improve the efficiency of the Toyota Hilux.
