Hyundai Ioniq 6 teased for Malaysia again – official launch imminent?

Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has taken to its Facebook page once again to tease a new model, and this time they’re not even trying to be subtle about it. The teaser image puts the model’s drag coefficient figures right front and centre, alongside a caption that reads “6 appeal, streamlined”. If you still haven’t figured it out by now, they’re talking about the Hyundai Ioniq 6.

This is far from the first time that the “streamliner” EV has been teased for Malaysia. The company has essentially already confirmed the Malaysian introduction for the Ioniq 6 back in December last year, while another teaser in April basically says that it’ll be coming in 2023. With this latest teaser, it’s fair to assume that the Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be launching in Malaysia very, very soon.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is called the “streamliner” thanks to its slippery shape, which translates to a drag coefficient of just 0.21Cd. In the real world, Hyundai says power consumption on the Ioniq 6 can go as low as 13.9 kWh/100 km, making it one of the most energy-efficient EVs out on the market today.

With a 77.4 kWh battery pack, Hyundai says that the Ioniq 6 can travel up to 610 km (WLTP) in a single charge for the single-motor long-range option. And when the time comes to charge it, the 800V electrical architecture from the E-GMP platform means it can support DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, taking just 18 minutes to charge from 10-80%.

Globally, the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 6 is offered in both single- and dual-motor configurations, with the most powerful variant making up to 239 kW (320 hp) and 650 Nm of torque, translating to a century sprint time in 5.1 seconds.

The exact configuration for the Malaysian market will have to wait until its official launch, but some of the globally-available equipment include the Parametric Pixel exterior lighting, twin 12-inch displays, vehicle-to-load (V2L) ports, as well as the marque’s latest generation of SmartSense advanced driver systems.
