Video: 2023 Renault Zoe from RM165k, the French EV returns – 5 Things

Once a pioneer for electric vehicles (EV) in Malaysia, the Renault Zoe is finally back in our market for 2023. With two variants being offered – Renault Zoe R110 and Renault Zoe R135, prices for the EV hatchback are RM165,000 and RM179,000 respectively. The car is also available on a subscription program just in case you don’t want to be fully committed to the Zoe, with prices starting from RM2,799 per month.

The 2023 Renault Zoe essentially still sits on the same platform as the older model which Malaysians have come to be familiar with. But to keep the car looking fresh, Renault has given it a facelift to keep up with modern design trends.

On the outside, the 2023 Renault Zoe gets standard equipment such as full LED headlights with C-shape DRLs, and 16-inch alloy wheels with a 10-spoke design. Customers can also choose their Renault Zoe R110 to be coated in Black or Solid White.

Moving up to the full-spec R135 variant, you get 16-inch alloy wheels with a 16-spoke design and front fog lights. There are also additional Blue, Purple, and Red body colour options.

Renault has packed both variants of the Zoe with a 52-kWh battery pack. This enables the R110 variant to achieve 395 km of range, while R135 gets a little less, at 386 km from the same battery. The R110 variant produces a total of 110 hp (metric) and 225 Nm, while the R135 variant outputs 135 hp and 245 Nm, which explains its shorter range compared to the ‘base’ spec Zoe.

Charging-wise, both the R110 and R135 variants can handle a maximum AC charging speed of 22 kW and a maximum DC charging speed of 50 kW. The 2023 Renault Zoe can go from flat to 100% of charge in 3 hours via 22-kW AC charging, while the 50-kW DC charging can help charge the Zoe from 0 to 80% state of charge (SOC) in 70 minutes. The Zoe can also be charged at a rate of 7.4 kW (AC single phase), which will take 9.5 hours.

Moving inside, the 2023 Renault Zoe comes with standard equipment such as automatic climate control, a 10-inch customizable driver screen, a 7-inch touchscreen head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, 6 speakers, and black fabric seats. The full-spec R135 variant gets you extras like offline navigation, rear USB charging ports, black leather-cloth combination upholstery, electrochromic rearview mirror, front and reverse sensor, reverse camera, as well as hands-free park assist.

Safety-wise, the 2023 Renault Zoe comes standard with safety features such as lane departure warning (LDW), lane keep assist (LKA), electronic stability control (ESC), emergency brake assist (EBA), hill start assist (HSA), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and 4 airbags. The full-spec R135 variant adds on auto high beam and blind spot warning.
