EON appointed as dealer for Smart Malaysia, Smart #1 to be sold at Glenmarie facility



Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) has just appointed Edaran Omobil Nasional (EON) as an official dealer for the upcoming Smart brand in Malaysia. EON is the second-appointed dealer for the brand in Malaysia after Hap Seng Smart.

Following these two dealer announcements, PRO-NET will soon announce five other dealerships that it has appointed. EON is an automotive retail arm of DRB-HICOM. The retail arm represents brands such as Proton, Volkswagen, Audi, Mitsubishi, and Isuzu.

The upcoming Smart vehicle is the Smart #1. It is a fully-electric car with a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) powertrain that makes 272 hp (metric) and 343 Nm and provides a 6.7-second century sprint time. The Smart #1 houses a 66-kWh battery pack that provides an all-electric driving range of 420-440 km on the WLTP test cycle. There is also a Brabus-tuned version of the Smart #1 with a dual-motor setup.

Set to launch in Malaysia in the fourth quarter of 2023, the Smart #1 scored a perfect 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test in November 2022.
