Neta V makes Malaysia debut – budget-oriented compact EV SUV from RM99,800

The Neta V has made its official introduction in Malaysia today, with a “soft launch” event today at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023. Available in one variant only, the Neta V is priced at RM99,800 on-the-road, without insurance, making it currently the most affordable electric vehicle here in Malaysia.

As a special promotion, the first 100 customers to place a booking at the motor show will also receive a cash rebate of RM10,000 – bringing the price down to RM89,800. Deliveries for the Neta V will begin in the third quarter of this year, according to local distributor Intro Synergy.

Coming in roughly the same dimensions as the Perodua Ativa, the Neta V is built upon a dedicated EV platform with a 38.5 kWh ternary battery pack. That translate to a driving range of around 380 km (NEDC), and if you’re not driving much, the V’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature will even let you power other electronic accessories at up to an output of 3.3 kW!

The compact EV comes with an on-board 6.6 kW AC charger, taking roughly eight hours to fill up the entire battery. With support for DC fast charging of up to 100 kW, owners can also charge the Neta V from 30-80% in just 30 minutes.

As for propulsion, the Neta V features a single electric motor on the front axle to deliver 70 kW (95 hp) and 150 Nm of torque. No century sprint times were provided, but the Chinese carmaker quotes a 0-50 km/h time of under 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 120 km/h.

Equipment wise, the Neta V in Malaysia will come as standard with automatic halogen projector headlamps, LED daytime-running lights, LED tail lights, and 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside, most of the dashboard is made up of the 14.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display, paired to a 12-inch digital instrument panel behind the steering wheels.

Other interior appointments include the electronic parking brake, reverse camera, six speaker sound system, and synthetic leather upholstery. Like the Ora Good Cat, drivers will not need to press any buttons to power up the car; just unlock and step in, and the Neta V is ready to be driven.

No advanced driver assist features have been specified for the Neta V here in Malaysia. Passive safety kit includes two airbags, automatic brake hold, hill start assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system, passive cruise control, and your usual array of electronics including ABS, traction control, and ESC.

The Neta V will be offered in five exterior colours, namely Sakura Pink, White Storm, Sky Blue, Cyan, and Midnight Gray. At RM99,800, does this unique-looking EV SUV pique your interest? Let us know in the comments section below!
