Hyundai Creta open for booking in Malaysia – Proton X50, Honda HRV, Toyota Corolla Cross competitor

Malaysia’s vibrant B-segment SUV market is about to welcome a new contender, as Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has officially announced that the Hyundai Creta is now open for booking at all its authorised sales outlets in Malaysia.

This new Korean B-segment SUV is positioned just under its bigger sibling, the Kona, and shares the same platform with the Kia Seltos. As of now, HSDM has not shared detailed specifications about the Creta yet but here are some details of the Creta, based on the models launched in Thailand and Indonesia.

Dimensions-wise, the Hyundai Creta measures 4,315 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, and 1,630 mm tall, which makes it slightly longer, taller and a hair wider than the Kona. Compared to the popular Proton X50, the Creta is just a hair shorter, narrower, but taller.

On the outside, the Creta’s front end features Hyundai’s Parametric Jewel design. Unlike most cars, the Creta’s LED daytime running lights are ‘hidden’ within the grille, while the main LED headlights are mounted in the bumper instead. Other notable details include dual-tone rims as well as the triangular-shaped rear combination LED lamps.

Inside, the Creta features an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch TFT instrument cluster with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As for driving modes, there are no less than four of them.

In terms of safety, the Creta comes standard with six airbags and Hyundai’s suite of SmartSense active safety features, including Forward and Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCTA), Safe Exit Warning and High Beam Assist – all of which contribute to its full five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

“The Hyundai Creta targets the young as well as the young-at-heart with its distinctive combination of contemporary design, connected technology and comprehensive active safety features,” said HSDM Managing Director, Mr Low Yuan Lung.

Pricing has not been announced by HSDM as of yet, but in Thailand, the Creta starts from THB 949,000 (approximately RM 122,484) for the base SE variant all the way to THB 999,000 (approximately RM128,937) for the high-spec SEL variant. When this Korean B-segment launches, it will be competing against contenders such as the Proton X50, Honda HRV, Toyota Corolla Cross and Peugeot 2008.
