Open payment system for tolls on five highways this September – NPE, AKLEH and more!

The Works Ministry has announced that five highways will soon adopt an open payment system for toll collection by September this year. The five highways are as follows:

  • New Pantai Expressway (NPE)
  • Ampang – Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH)
  • Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya)
  • Penang Bridge
  • Guthrie Corridor Expressway

With the open payment system, road users will be able to pay toll charges with their debit or credit cards. It is also the first step in transitioning to the multi-lane fast flow (MLFF) system which will feature open payment systems.

The move also aims to promote competition between industry players and provide road users with alternative modes of payment. This comes after Transport Minister, Anthony Loke’s announcement that an open payment for toll payments will be implemented soon.

The open payment aims to reduce dependency on Touch ‘n Go (TnG) as a single mode of payment. Use of debit or credit cards will be allowed not just for toll payments but also for bus and rail services under Prasarana.
