Gallery: 2023 Perodua Axia X 1.0 with Gear Up accesories – basic but functional!

The all-new Perodua Axia is available in four variants starting from RM38,600 for the 1.0 G, RM40,000 for the 1.0 X, RM44,000 for the 1.0 SE and RM49,500 for the 1.0 AV. While it retains the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine from the previous generation, with 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque, it now uses Perodua’s D-CVT gearbox, just like in the Ativa.

Overall, the larger Perodua Axia has been improved in more ways than one but if you’re merely looking for an ‘A to B’ car with all the basic (modern) amenities, the 1.0 X variant is the one to look at.

You get items like automatic LED headlamps, front sensors, keyless entry and LED rear combination lamps on an exterior that now looks a little more aggressive than before. Filling up the wheel arches are 14-inch wheels from the previous generation.

The Axia 1.0 X test unit we had also came with Gear Up accessories and these include window visors, a luggage tray and a front hood insulator which supposedly reduces engine noise.

Moving inside, Gear Up accessories include the illuminated door sills and coil mats along with dual-tone front and rear seat covers made of PVC. The cabin may be a simple one with basic functions such as the Bluetooth head unit, push-start button and a single-zone air conditioning system but overall, the interior design now appears more dynamic. If you’re looking for better features, the Axia 1.0 AV might better suit you.

It certainly looks more youthful and less dull compared to before and what was rather useful was the storage spaces available. There’s one by the driver’s right knee and more at the centre console – whether for your phone, your bottle or other items.

Looking at the rearview mirror, you’d notice two things. Gone are the defroster grids (the horizontal lines on the rear windscreen) and secondly, the rearview mirror seems to have a telescopic effect – making things seem further than they are. It’s actually a little disorientating to look at.

On the safety front, the Axia 1.0 X is equipped with two airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, emergency stop signal and ISOFIX seats.
