Alongside the preview of the all-new Perodua Axia, the company has announced that production and sales for January 2023 have jumped to 21,449 units registered. This is a 43.5% increase from January 2022 with 17,444 units.
In terms of production, Perodua produced 24,590 units in January this year, up 40.2% from 17,538 units in January 2022. That said, Perodua pointed out that sales and production in January 2022 were hampered by floods, severe semiconductor chip shortages, manpower issues and other factors.
The jump in volume for production and sales, however, indicated that the ecosystem is moving as planned. For the year 2023, Perodua is targeting to register 314,000 units and produce 330,000 units.
As for the Axia, Perodua revealed that 3,591 bookings have been made so far, with nearly all of the bookings for the previous Axia converted to the new model.
To recap, the new Axia is available in four variants with tentative prices starting from RM38,600 for the G, RM40,000 for the X, RM44,000 for the SE and RM49,500 for the AV variant. All variants will be powered by the carried-over 1.0-litre three-cylinder 1KR-VE VVT-i engine with 67 hp and 91 Nm. Notable features include a new D-CVT gearbox, six airbags, a new Coral Blue colour, digital instrument cluster and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen.
